Wanderers unable to maintain good start

In round two of the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League’s League 2 Men’s Championship, the Deniliquin Wanderers hosted Strathfieldsaye Colts United FC at Rotary Park.

The action started with both teams vying for possession, with the Wanderers capitalising at the five minute mark with a short range rocket from team captain Masen Brain to start the scoring.

At the 21 minute mark, Colts United levelled the score after an unfortunate own goal.

Play continued with moments of back and forth action, with the Colts going into the break 4-1 up.

In the second half, the Wanderers were denied a scoring chance by a superb save from United keeper Robert Wooldridge.

Young Wanderers defender Tanaka Maunganidze put in a solid effort in left back throughout the match.

He and Brain shared the Player’s Player award.

United finished as the eventual winners, 9-1.

The Wanderers are scheduled to face Golden City FC this Saturday at Rotary Park, with kick off 2pm.
