Wedgies ran out easy winners over the Par-Tee Poppers, 140-117.
In accepting the trophy, Wedgies captain Vince Kelly thanked his side for the commitment they showed over the extended season and the camaraderie they provided.
Kelly also acknowledged the support of sponsors, whose support make these events for sporting clubs possible and the success they are.
To Kelly’s surprise, teammate Gary Rodda then took the microphone to announce that the team had decided to donate the $1000 prize money to Tour de Cure Australia in support of Kelly’s upcoming participation in the 2023 Signature Tour.
The Wedgies’ scoring was led by Simon Tilders who played a brilliant front nine, scoring 23 points, and finishing with 37 points overall.
Kelly delivered his best score of the season with 36.
Sarah Aitken, who has lead the Wedgies scoring throughout the season, maintained her form with 35 points, and Gary Rodda fought hard for 32 to complete the team’s score of 140.
By comparison, the Par-Tee Poppers were only able to achieve one score over 30.
Sue Butcher scored 33, Will Bull scored 29 and Jamie Loy 28.
Four team members scored 27, bringing the total of their top four scores to 117.
It was no doubt a disappointing end for the Par-Tee Poppers’ season, but in accepting the runners-up prize captain Ann Bull told the crowd how proud she was of her team’s efforts.
Bull explained how her team had played the past three games needing to win or be eliminated from the competition.
She said to make the Grand Final was a great achievement in itself.
Ben Littman from the Bush Whackers was announced as the Player of the Competition, winning the vote count on 9.5 points.
He was just half a point ahead of the runner-up, Big Ballers captain Ross Taylor.
Par-Tee Poppers’ Jamie Loy finished third on 8.5.
The 10 player Team of the Year was also announced at the presentations.
This is determined based on scoring average of the players in their four best rounds of the season.
The Team of the Year is as follows: Ross Taylor, 36.75 point average (Big Ballers); Colin Thompson, 35.75 (Tell Him He’s Dreamin); Ben Littmann, 35.75 (Bush Whackers); Jamie Loy, 35.25 (Par-Tee Poppers); Sarah Aitken, 35 (The Wedgies); Felicity McCalman, 34.25 (Eagles & Biridies); Gary Rodda, 34.25 (The Wedgies); Vince Kelly, 34 (The Wedgies); Andrew Brunker, 33.75 (Tell Him He’s Dreamin); and Ross Burnham, 33.5, (Big Ballers).
