Cr Mack has been touted as the likely independent candidate to represent the Voices for Farrer Group, but has not decided whether he will seek a seat in state or federal politics.
Cr Mack, who is mayor of Albury City Council, is expected to stand as an independent if he does try to get into parliament.
Voices for Farrer is strongly encouraging him to challenge incumbent Member for Farrer Sussan Ley at the federal election, likely to be held in May.
But Cr Mack said he is still weighing up his options.
‘‘I’ll need to weigh up the positives and negatives of running for either state or federal elections,’’ he said.
‘‘I’d rather lose fighting for something I believe in; and I don’t like to lose anything.
‘‘Farrer is a pretty big game and as the chair of the Riverina and Murray Joint Organisation of Councils I understand many local issues outside of Albury.
‘‘Both seats could be better represented as they’re pretty under represented at the moment.
‘‘I need to assess where I’m at with my position on Albury City Council and what is best for my family regardless of what decision I make.’’
Cr Mack confirmed he’s been speaking with Voices for Farrer about his options.
‘‘I’ve spoken with them and I’m still working out if it will be state or federal, or neither.’’
Ms Ley’s only confirmed challenger in this year’s federal election is Labor Party candidate Kieran Dabsch, who announced his candidacy last year.
Although not confirmed the federal election is likely to take place in May, with the NSW state election on Saturday, March 23.
