It is difficult to hit the green on the long par three second hole, let alone score an ace.

But it has been achieved for the third time in 18 months, with Geoff Corboy scoring a hole-in-one in the stableford event on Saturday.
He joins Chris Thomson and Sandra Lugsdin who have achieved the feat since Tocumwal Golf Resort and Early Settlers Motel sponsored the hole to the tune of $1000 for every hole-in-one.
Club secretary Norm Purtill was rumoured to be rocking backwards and forwards in his chair in utter disbelief!
The ace helped Corboy to 42 points and a win in A grade, three clear of runner-up Wayne Hodgson.
He said it was his first ever hole-one.
‘‘It was pretty exciting at the time, there was a little bit of wind behind me to help sink it,’’ Corboy said.
‘‘The players ahead saw it go in so they were all cheering.
‘‘I want to thank Norm, Adam and Michelle Purtill for sponsoring the hole.’’
In B grade Carol Hardman had a day out with 44 points to defeat Des Ramsey on 40, and in C grade Kevin Reeves also had 44, winning by six shots from Graham Huntington.
On Wednesday Barry Barlow won A grade with 40 points, from Rob Gray on 38, and in B grade Ian Campbell had 44 to defeat Peter Thompson on 41.
The first Monday veterans comp for the year was played this week and won by Howlong visitor Douglas Henderson with 41 points, a shot clear of Norm Purtill on 40.
Last Thursday’s ladies winner was Lyn O’Brien with 39 from in-form Carol Hardman on 36.
Tomorrow is a stableford event. Sunday is the Big Hole Golf Charity Day, raising money for Vince Kelly’s Tour De Cure for cancer research.
A big field is assured for this event and members are encouraged to give this worthy cause their support.
In the clubhouse the meat raffles are on tonight with ticket sales from 6pm and draws starting at 7.30. A decision on Joker’s Wild is expected to be made in the next week.
Members are encouraged to support Friday night activities to ensure they continue, as numbers have been down lately. An excellent meal at good value is available.
Over the course of the year the revenue generated on Friday nights makes a valuable contribution to the club.
