The Wanderers had a tough introduction to the GDFA last week, going down to Yoogali Football Club 4-1 at Yellow Tail Park at Yoogali.
Deni started strongly in the game, with Bailey Hart scoring a goal for the Wanderers before Yoogali responded with what was considered a ‘‘lucky’’ shot before the end of the first half.
The second half was played on the home side’s terms, managing to take control of the game with three more goals to run away with the win.
‘‘We probably just ran out of legs in the end,’’ Wanderers’ assistant coach Mark Rourke said.
‘‘We had more opportunities to score in the first half but didn’t take them, but in general play we played pretty good.
‘‘The second half I think we were a bit tired and lapses of concentration saw goals scored against us.
‘‘We left the game with a positive mindset though and we’ve taken what we need to work on out of that.
‘‘Bailey (Hart) and Kyle (Mula) were our better players for the day, but we also had a few missing that should play this week.’’
Among those who were missing that are expected to line-up for the Wanderers are playing-coach Josh Perizzolo and experienced duo Mark Plant and Brad Scroop.
They will play for the Wanderers in their first home game since 2008, after their historic round one clash against Yoogali Soccer Club was postponed due to the visitors being unable to field a side.
Rourke said he hopes his side can ‘‘put on a show’’ for the home crowd.
‘‘We were really excited in the build up to our round one game, so to finally play a game at home will be an awesome experience,’’ he said.
‘‘We’re not quite sure what to expect against Hanwood because they won their first game but then lost 10-nil last week.
‘‘Their first division side had a bye the first week so that may have factored into the win, so we don’t know what to take from that.
‘‘We’ll just have to stick to our game plan, back in what we know we’re capable of and hopefully we can get a win.’’
The match between the Wanderers and Hanwood will kick-off at Rotary Park at 1pm on Sunday.
