The three-time All-Australian has become one of the AFL's most prolific on-ballers and rivals would love to acquire his services.
But Macrae has inked a five-year contract extension — he will be aged 33 when the deal expires.
"This club means an enormous amount to me and my family and I couldn't be happier to commit my future to the Western Bulldogs," Macrae said.
"I'm extremely passionate about the direction this club is taking, and I am so proud to wear the red, white and blue every week.
"It's an exciting time to be involved at the Bulldogs.
"I am determined to help this side continue to strive for on-field success, but also drive a really strong culture within the playing group."
Macrae has rarely missed a game since being taken by the Bulldogs with pick No.6 in the 2012 draft.
He has played 186 games, and gathered 33 possessions in the Bulldogs' drought-breaking grand final win in 2016.
He is a proven big-game performer after taking out the Gary Ayres award as the best player in last year's finals series.
Macrae was elevated to the vice-captaincy for this season, behind skipper Marcus Bontempelli.
"We're thrilled to have Jack commit to five more years with the Western Bulldogs," the club's list manager Sam Power said.
"Jack has become a vital player for the club and now sits among some of the best midfielders in the competition.
"He is an individual that is selfless in his actions, both on and off the field, while continuing to drive high standards of himself and those around him."
The Bulldogs will be desperate to atone for their round-one loss to Melbourne in the grand final rematch when they face Carlton at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night.
