With rising input costs, ongoing fertiliser supply pressures, and tightening margins, Australian growers are under increasing pressure to maximise the return on every hectare.
In response, Liquid Systems (SA) has announced the launch of its new manual set rate (MSR) series, a simplified, cost-effective in-furrow liquid application system designed to make liquid nutrient placement more accessible to a broader range of farming operations.
In-furrow liquid application opens the door to a broader, more flexible toolkit – from building block NPK fertilisers, inoculants, and trace elements through to fungicides, soil conditioners and wetters – all delivered in a single pass at seeding.
The advantage is simple: placement. By delivering inputs directly into the root zone, growers are achieving:
- more efficient use of fertiliser and crop inputs.
- stronger, more uniform early crop establishment.
- increased nodulation and nitrogen fixing in legumes.
- reduced need for additional passe.
- greater flexibility in nutrient and crop protection strategies.
Since 2002, Liquid Systems (SA) has been at the forefront of this shift, with its LQS Series setting the benchmark for precision liquid delivery through integration with leading precision agriculture controllers, enabling variable rate and data-driven application.
However, not every farming operation requires that level of sophistication.
Liquid Systems business development manager Matt Devine says across Australia, we work with many growers operating on consistent soil types and straightforward paddocks, who simply want a lower-cost, lower-complexity way to access the benefits of liquid application..
“For these operations, the investment and technical requirements of full precision ag systems can be a real barrier,” he says.
The MSR series has been developed to remove that barrier.
Available in both hydraulic and electric configurations, the MSR removes the need for rate controllers and complex precision ag infrastructure, while still delivering consistent and reliable application.
It is particularly suited to growers with consistent soil types and operating speeds with uniform paddocks, as well as irrigated, broadacre, row crop, intensive ground crops and research applications.
Built with the same high-quality componentry Liquid Systems is known for, including its proven piston diaphragm pump, the system delivers steady, consistent flow, handles a wide range of liquid products, and remains gentle on biologicals such as inoculants.
When paired with Liquid Systems’ Stacker Distribution Kit, the MSR Series ensures even, positive pressure delivery to every row, reducing the risk of blockages and maintaining accurate placement across the full width of the bar.
The result is a practical, cost-effective entry point into liquid application, helping more Australian growers improve nutrient efficiency, reduce input waste, and establish stronger crops from the outset.
With fertiliser costs and supply continuing to challenge the industry, solutions that improve placement efficiency and reduce reliance on multiple passes are becoming increasingly important.
“This isn’t about changing direction for Liquid Systems,” Matt adds.
“It’s about widening the path – making proven liquid application technology accessible to more growers, in a way which suits their operation,” he says.
The Segafredo family operates a contact seeding business in the Traralgon region of Victoria, using a Horsch Avatar 4m 24-outlet seeder.
To serve their customer base better and to take advantage of new liquid products on the market, the Segafredo family was looking for a simple robust solution to applying liquids to the customer fields.
Claudio Segafredo says “there's a lot of liquid crop nutrition products coming to market, and we needed a better way to apply them for our customers”.
“The Liquid Systems manual setup is simple to operate and tough enough for our contracting work,” he explains.
“It was easy to install and get up and running.
“The hydraulic MSR system just delivers. It’s straightforward to use, and the sales and after-sales support gave us real confidence these guys know what they’re doing.”
