■OPENING batsman Josh Novoselek has put Echuca South in a position to possibly claim its first Goulburn Murray Cricket win in more than a year.
His 68 on the first day of round six play against Rochester led the team to a respectable 9/191, setting Rochester an interesting total to chase on Saturday.
With both Jake Toll and Joel Stephens having taken five wickets each this season, South have some fire power in their bowling stocks, but everyone will need to fire if they are to get their first win.
■CAN young gun Rory Carlile add some runs to his bowling performance and steer Echuca to victory?
Carlile was the hero with the ball on Saturday taking 3/3 to clear up BLU's tail as Echuca held their opposition to 205.
He's had three scores in the 30s in under 16 cricket so far this season, and will be looking to put some runs on the board at A grade level.
Echuca won't have a huge tally to chase, but will still need a strong showing to get across the line.
■MOAMA has their work cut out for them when they resume play against Ky Fire Brigade on Saturday.
With the top three of Daniel Kent, Jesse Barker and Robert Salter combining for 251, the Flames were in the box seat to score big - finishing with 8/317.
A win would put some space between the Magpies (and top two Tongala and Cooma) and the Flames, so this result would be a game changer early in the season if Moama can successfully chase the target.
■TONGALA is on the verge of the first outright of the season.
After bowling out Cooma for 98, the Blues had 72 on the board at the close of play.
With Jayden Tucker and Daniel Coombs both set in the 30s, the chance to put a big score on the board and topple Cooma to take top spot is well and truly in reach for the Blues.
TENNIS
■CTA
Section one will see two matches in the twin towns this weekend, with Echuca South 2 hosting Echuca Lawn 1, while Echuca Lawn 2 hosts Rich River 1.
The clash between Lawn 2 and RR1 will be one of the better matches of the season so far, with the two teams currently sitting one and two on the ladder.
With just percentage separating the two sides, the winner will take sole control of top spot.
Echuca South 1 will be on the road at Rochester.
■GMLTA
Both Echuca/Rochester and Rich River will find themselves on court at Shepparton on Saturday as the GMLTA season continues.
