The trio were found at a bungalow near Kuta, a resort town on the Indonesian island's southwest coast, on Sunday morning.
They have been identified as Western Australian man Damien John Shaw, 56, his six-year-old son Archie and four-year-old daughter Laura.
A local forensic doctor, Dr Henky, on Tuesday fronted media where he presented external medical examinations performed on Shaw and his children at Bali's Ngoerah General Hospital.
An initial external examination of the bodies suspected the children died "due to violence", while Shaw succumbed to self-inflicted injuries.
Dr Henky also appeared to show the Indonesian marriage certificate of Shaw and his wife, who were renting the Legian bungalow in between the popular tourist precincts of Kuta and Seminyak.
Shaw's wife, who was out of town at the time, called a neighbour at about 8.30am on Sunday, requesting he check on the family after she failed to contact them, a Denpasar Police statement said.
The neighbour, Nur Khamid, then called upon the landlord and neighbourhood chief after receiving no answer at the door.
The door was forced open, where the three bodies were found inside the home.
Police tape continues to line the wooden double entry door to the home, which neighbours eight other villas and bungalows, some of which are available for short-term rent online.
Investigators are processing the crime scene, examining CCTV footage at the scene and interviewing witnesses and contacts, including the victim's wife, to determine the cause of death of the victims, Denpasar Police Chief Leonardo D. Simatupang said.
WA Premier Roger Cook said the incident was horrific, stressing investigations were ongoing.
"This is a very sad, sad situation and our hearts go out to everyone involved," he told reporters on Monday.
"We hope that we can get to the bottom of what's gone on here as soon as possible."
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was providing assistance to the family.
Shaw's LinkedIn page appears to show he previously worked in the maritime industry, and was seeking employment.Â
