Now she’s back in her hometown with an aim to help people.
The 45 year-old established Human Happiness, which focuses on alternative holistic healing therapy.
From as early as Ms Blacksell can remember, she has been fascinated with how humans ‘tick’, and has always had a very strong desire to help others.
That desire lead her to Canberra in 1993, where she studied education at the University of Canberra with a triple major in health, chemistry and physics.
She was based at Nowra on the south coast of NSW as a part of her scholarship, before moving to Queanbeyan.
‘‘I initially pursued a career as a maths, physics and chemistry teacher but during my 18 years of teaching in high schools, colleges, and universities, a very noticeable pattern started to surface,’’ Ms Blacksell said.
‘‘I was a lot more interested in learning about the lives of my students and work colleagues and in giving them ways to change what they didn’t like.
‘‘I always felt most joyous when I would see a light bulb go off over someone’s head, see their eyes open wide with excitement and hope, see them smile, or see them overcome a fear, after talking with me about their troubles, and working through how to overcome them.
‘‘And so, in 2012, I left the teaching profession and pursued a career in alternative holistic healing therapy.’’
Ms Blacksell said she initially planned to move back to Deniliquin about 2009, but her children — Elizabeth, Bianca and Harrison — were ‘‘so little’’.
At the start of this year, she decided now was the right time.
‘‘Someone I was chatting with was going on about how much they love Canberra but I realised I couldn’t even match one per cent of that feeling,’’ she said.
‘‘I had a lightbulb moment. I did not like being there but I thought I had to stay, so that started a motion to come home.
‘‘I got back to Deniliquin last week and my main reason is because it is the right place for me to fulfill my life purpose; I do love it here.
‘‘And a lot of my family is here including my sister Melinda Roe who also owns a local business.’’
Mrs Blacksell offers healing therapy, yoga, reiki, numerology, ho’oponopono and personal development sessions among other services.
‘‘I’ve taught five numerology courses, three emotional eating courses, more than 400 Dru Yoga classes, and 18 reiki courses that have attuned 72 people in reiki I, II and III masters levels,’’ she said.
‘‘You can access the services online, on the phone, and I also work from home so you can come to me and I offer it remotely. So even if you are overseas you can still access my services.
‘‘There is really no limit to what I do and the issues I can help you with.
‘‘I profoundly enjoy each and every interaction I have with all humans and I thank every one of them for the healing and growth these interactions have provided.”
