This column will talk about issues across all our communities, from Deniliquin to Finley, Wentworth to Balranald, Moulamein to Barham, as well as Hay, Griffith, Murrumbidgee, Murray, Berrigan, the Federation and Greater Hume regions, and everywhere in between.
Mike Rolls said: “I am right here with you, buddy.”
It’s a compelling and authentic quote from a person who has had more than his share of challenges, having lost multiple limbs when he contracted Meningococcal Septicemia at the age of 18.
Mike’s comment stimulated my mind. Do we think our political representatives have been “right here with you, buddy”?
I thought: Yes – Our State Member for Murray Helen Dalton fits the bill.
Helen, as an example, is an Independent, not being dictated to by a political party.
Farrer’s future needs an Independent who is Fighting for Farrer.
Where we go from here needs to be a 20+ year plan to make up for decades of neglect.
So I asked the question: What does Farrer have to offer? Importantly, we have world-class irrigation infrastructure with three irrigation valleys and their companies – Murrumbidgee, Coleambally and Murray.
But we also have land and a farming desire that is impeded by no affordable water from an unaffordable Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
The Plan has decimated water supply-chain security and this has come at a cost – there is no surety when price is the key determinant for competitiveness. This is short termism.
When water security is compromised, as it has been, food security is compromised. And the electorate of Farrer is compromised. The Farrer communities are inclusive, diverse and unique, but we have been let down.
The upcoming by-election is our opportunity to Fight for the Farrer Heartland.
Are we up for the fight?
We are right here with each other in Farrer.
Be involved to ensure we get ‘A Fair Go For Farrer’.
