Echuca unit fire

On Friday, October 18, about 9pm, Victorian Country Fire Authority crews responded to reports of a fire at a unit on Ogilvie Ave, Echuca.

Echuca CFA and Echuca Village Fire Brigade volunteer firefighters attended the scene, where the second storey was alight.

They were able to contain the fire and ensure minimal smoke damage to adjoining properties.

Fire + Rescue NSW brigades from Moama and Deniliquin provided support, and Fire Rescue Victoria provided a ladder platform truck, heavy pumper and breathing apparatus from Bendigo.

CFA fire investigators are looking into the cause of the incident, with the outcome still unknown.

Health homes arrive

A key step in attracting health professionals to the Southern Riverina has begun with the installation of key worker accommodation units at Finley.

The pre-fabricated units are being installed on the east side of the Finley Health Service, in Dawe Ave.

There are six units in total, being delivered under the NSW Government’s $45.3 million Key Worker Accommodation program.

They will be offered to health workers relocating to the area, and will also be used by visiting medical staff.

Described as “modern” and “fit for purpose”, the furnished and self-contained units are expected to be ready for occupants by the end of the year, once installation, connection of services, fencing, landscaping, and furnishing of the new units is completed.

Legendary family

Members of the Collins family from Tennyson were presented with a major award at the Royal Melbourne Show recently.

The family members were honoured to accept the award which sees them enter legend status at the show.

Many of the Collins crew attended the show to receive the award presented by David Bolton on behalf of the beef cattle committee.

The award acknowledged the long-standing contributions that members of the family have made to agricultural shows over the years, beginning with Phill and Gwen Collins.
