The Autumn Classic, played in ideal weather, proved an outstanding event with big fields at Deniliquin Golf Club over the weekend.

The 36 hole winners in the men’s division were Andrew Brunker and Matthew Piper with 88 points, from runners-up Rob Armytage and Ross Burnham on 85.
Scratch winners were Peter Joice and Chris Thomson.
In the ladies division, 36 hole winners were Leanne Landy and Leanne Mulham with an impressive 95 points, from runners-up Vicki Brunker and Jenny Swainger on 87.
Brunker and Swainger also won the scratch event.
On Saturday, the men’s winners were Russell Begg and Jaxon O’Donnell with an impressive 51 points, from runners-up Oliver Dellwo and Lachlan McDonald with 49.
Ladies winners, kicking off a big weekend, were Leanne Landy and Leanne Mulham with 46 points, from runners-up Vicki Brunker and Jenny Swainger on 43.
On Sunday, the men’s winners were Alan Jenkin and Bentley Hardman with 47 points, from runners-up Rob Armytage and Ross Burnham 44.
Ladies winners were Leanne Landy and Leanne Mulham with 49 points from runners-up Carol Hardman and Linda Brant on 46.
The club again extends its thanks to Purtills Group and Wired Entertainment for their sponsorship, which continues to ensure this is one of the premier events on the annual calendar.
On Wednesday, the A-grade winner was Graeme Willoughby who scored 39 points and ‘shot his age’ for the fifth time. Runner-up was Peter Joice with 37.
B-grade winner was Tony Kew with 39 points from runner-up Stephen Townsend 38, and C-grade winner was Gary Freckleton with 41 points from runner-up Oliver Dellwo 40.
The first round of the 2026 Deniliquin Golf Club men’s championships will be played tomorrow.
The first round of the ladies championships was played yesterday.
The men will play three rounds on March 14, 21 and 28, with the final round being the top eight in each grade.

As a result of the championships, stroke events will dominate play over coming weeks on both Thursday and Saturday.
The 9 hole Tuesday event will continue, as will the usual medley stableford on Wednesdays.
The next 9 hole social golf event will be on Sunday, April 12 with a 12 noon shotgun start. After golf, there will be live music and the bistro open all day. The event will be 4-person ambrose and entry fee $10 per player.
The Flagstick Bistro has recently introduced its new daily specials (see advertisement on this page). The bistro continues to get excellent feedback, and members are encouraged to continue supporting it.
Friday Night Fun is on tonight, with happy hour from 6pm to 7pm, and raffle tickets on sale from 6pm with draws at 7pm.
