RFS district coordinator Gerard James said Conargo, Wandook and Deniliquin NSW RFS brigades responded to a call regarding a ‘structure fire’ about 8am, with NSW Police also in attendance.
But the time fire crews arrive, the occupant had extinguished the fire.
Firefighters first on scene said a bathroom exhaust fan had started smouldering in the wall cavity and was issuing smoke.
Other brigades who had not yet arrived were stood down.
After determining there was no further risk, firefighters left the property and instructed the occupant to emply an electrician to further investigate.
Mr James said it was a timely reminder for residents to check lint build up around household extraction fans.
