The NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) results are due out this Thursday, December 18.
This will include their subject scores and their ATAR results - the score they rely on for university placements.
The first round of university offers will be released the same day, with a second round on December 23 and more in January.
We wish all our local students good luck.
If you are a local student who would like to share your results, feel free to email journalist Eamon Kurta on eamon.kurta@denipt.com.au or call 5881 2322.
Final draw for Think B4 U Click
There’s only four more shopping days left to earn tickets into the $5000 Think B4 U Click Christmas major prize draw.
The final draw will take place during the Edward River Christmas Party and Carols in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens this Friday.
The campaign, run by the Deniliquin Pastoral Times, encourages locals to support participating businesses in the lead-up to Christmas.
Earning tickets is simple, spend $20 at a participating business to receive one entry, with extra tickets awarded for each additional $20 spent (capped at 20 per transaction).
Tickets can be returned to business entry boxes or placed directly in the barrel, which will be moved to Waring Gardens for the draw. Tickets will be accepted right up until the draw takes place.
Cool change won’t last
The weekend kicked off with a typical summer day, as Friday climbed to a hot 34.7°C under dry skies.
But by Saturday the heat had eased, with a much milder top of 25.9°C and a touch more humidity in the air.
Sunday brought the real cool change, dipping to just 15.4°C overnight and topping out at 19.2°C during the day.
A light shower added 2.2mm of rain, while strong westerly winds kept things fresh and resulted in a harvest alert warning for firefighters.
As the week continues, temperatures are expected to warm back up, even expecting to climb into the 40s.
Fish of the Week
Persistence paid off for local angler Kyntema Rizio at the weekend, who landed a personal best Murray Cod measuring an impressive 90cm at Stevens Weir.
Using cheese as bait, Kyntema was ready to call it a day when the whopper struck just as she began to reel in her line.
“I didn’t think I was going to catch anything, but right before I packed up this beauty came along,” she said.
True to the spirit of sustainable fishing, it was released back into the river — meaning another lucky angler may one day enjoy the thrill of reeling it in.
Think your catch could be our next Fish of the Week?
This feature will continue in Tuesday editions, and we ask locals to send us a photo of your catch, details of size, bait, and where it was caught — exact locations welcome too.
The Pastoral Times is also seeking contributors for a regular fishing column, covering local feats, tips, and news.
For both, contact journalist Eamon Kurta at eamon.kurta@denipt.com.au or call 5881 2322.
