If you weren’t already planning a trip to Conargo, these new additions might just tempt you.
The Deniliquin CWA will run a Lucky Scone Draw, with every scone purchased earning an entry into the running for two $50 supermarket vouchers.
The children’s entertainment has expanded with safe axe throwing, airbrush tattoos, a jumping castle and more.
Purchase a $10 wristband for unlimited access to these activities, and others.
A community raffle has also been added, featuring prizes such as a fire pit, a country outfitters pack, horse wall art and a My Shop voucher.
The program runs from 9am to 5pm and previously announced activities include live music, Light Horse demonstrations, blade shearing, bush butchering, kids’ activities including the dinosaur treasure hunt, mechanical bull rides, food trucks and classic cars.
The Deni Poker Run Crew will also stop in about 2pm, making for a bumper afternoon.
Step back in time this Saturday
The Waring Gardens will play host to a slice of motoring history this Saturday when the Model T Ford Club of Victoria rolls into Deniliquin as part of its fun run.
From 1pm to 3pm, around 20 beautifully restored Model Ts, some more than a century old and representing one of the world’s earliest mass‑production cars, will be on display as the group stops in for lunch.
Locals are invited to wander through the gardens, chat with the owners and hear the stories behind these remarkable machines that are still running strong after all these years.
Before heading to the gardens, the group will be touring The Depot.
Poker Run returns for Can Assist
There’s also still time to get involved with the Deni Poker Run, also being held tomorrow.
Registration is from 8am at the WHite Lion Hotel in Deniliquin, with the run starting about 10am.
Riders and drivers will travel to five venues across the region, collecting cards along the way before the winning poker hand is revealed at the final stop.
It’s $25 to enter, or $10 extra for the bus.
Proceeds from the day will support Deniliquin Can Assist.
Happy Birthday to Lordy
A big Happy Birthday from the Deniliquin PT team to our resident cartoonist Alan ‘Lordy’ Lord.
As you can see from his contribution to this edition, he’s celebrating two big milestones - his 80th birthday, and being one of the longest running cartoonists in the country.
Lordy has been supplying his cartoon, ‘Lordy’s View’, to the PT for 40 years.
He started putting texta to paper as a child, and estimates are he’s created more than 10,000 cartoons to date.
And of course, that number grows each week.
Lordy draws inspiration from what he sees and hears around him for his cartoons, meaning many feature local identities and stories.
We’d love to hear from you if you’ve ever featured in one of Lordy’s cartoons. Send a copy and the story behind it to zoe.mcmaugh@denipt.com.au.
Market moved to Easter
Regular visitors to the Deniliquin Lions Community Market might find it a bit strange not to be heading down to the Deniliquin Waring Gardens tomorrow.
Normally held the fourth Saturday of each month, the March event has been postponed a week to add to the Easter festivities instead.
The next Lions Community Market will be held on Easter, Monday, April 6.
Regular stallholders sell plants, handcrafted and made items, clothing, fresh fruits and vegetables and bric-a-brac.
The Deniliquin Gilr Guides are usually a regular with their hot cinnamon and jam donuts, but stallholders are yet to be confirmed.
Flash flooding input
Edward River Council is asking residents to share their experiences of localised flash flooding as part of its Overland Flow Flood Study.
Locals can fill in the survey at www.haveyoursay.edwardriver.nsw.gov.au/deniliquin-major-overland-flow-flood-study-consultationand.
There is also a drop‑in session on March 30, at Edward River Library in Deniliquin.
Originally only planned for two hours, the session has been extended based on community interest.
Residents can attend any time between 2pm and 7pm to help build a clearer picture of how flooding affects different parts of the community.
Library closed tomorrow
Edward River Library will be closed tomorrow, due to required electrical maintenance.
Normal hours will resume from Monday, but will change again slightly for Easter.
