The Rochester flood levy project has hit another important milestone, with construction tenders now out in the open. The winning contractor is expected to be named by the end of August, along with the result of an application for extra disaster recovery funding. Construction is expected to begin either before Christmas or early next year, with community updates to be provided as works progress.
New GP joins Rochester
Rochester and Elmore District Health Service will welcome a new GP on July 22. The doctor will initially work three days a week at the Rochester Primary Care Clinic, with plans to gradually increase availability. Appointments can be made through the health service or via the HotDoc app.
Sand Greens championships return
The Rochester Golf Club will host the district Sand Greens Championship during the first week of August, followed by the Victorian Sand Greens Championships on the final weekend of the month. The events are set to draw golfers from right across Victoria and as far as NSW.
Community Village seeks committee members
Rochester Community Village is encouraging new volunteers to join its committee. The village has 18 units and is nearing completion of a refurbishment program, with only one unit left to upgrade. Residents interested in helping guide the village's future are encouraged to get involved.
Show and Shine date set
The Rochester Motoring Club has locked in Saturday, October 24 for its annual Show and Shine. Organisers are particularly encouraging owners of trucks and motorcycles to enter this year's event, which will again include markets run by the Rochester Lions Club.
Seed library grows
The Rochester Community Garden has launched a community seed sharing library at the front of the courthouse. The project was brought to life with the help of Rochester Secondary College students Jasmine Watson and Ruby Collins, who took it on as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Free packets of seasonal seeds are now available for anyone to take.
Planning for life's final chapter
End of life doula Esther is hosting a free community information day on Monday, August 10, from 9.30am to 2.30pm. The day will step through advance care planning, palliative care, funeral options and available support services — all in a welcoming, supportive setting. Places are limited, so registration is essential. Lunch will be provided.

Historical Society update
The Rochester Historical Society has given the Salvation Army Hall a fresh face with a new sign, and is putting the finishing touches on its upcoming Live and Prosper publication. The group is also busy pulling together its 2026 calendar, with an eye on having it ready well before Christmas.
