Brenda Norman will make a second attempt to cross the North Channel between Scotland and Ireland today.
Confirmed this morning, Norman will set off of the 35km journey at 5.30pm our time (7am in Ireland).
Norman, who was inducted to the Australian Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame just last week, was unsuccessful in her first attempt on September 23.
She had been swimming for nine hours before the decision was made to abandon the swim due to a combination of channel conditions and swimmer fatigue.
Unable to keep food down because of the rough seas, Norman’s loss of cognitive function during the swim led to the decision.
The conditions were the result of Donaghadee being hit by the tail end of Hurricane Lee in the days leading up to the swim.
Ms Norman’s long distance swims are not just about her own physical and mental health.
She founded Channel 4 Change - a youth mental health charity - to coincide with her first swim to cross the English Channel in 2017.
Through her swims she not only raises awareness of youth mental health, she also raises money to support initiatives delivered through the Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group.
