The approval brings the region a step closer to delivering much-needed childcare places and helping address one of the most significant challenges facing local families, employers and the broader community.
As a council-related development valued at more than $5 million, the DA was assessed as a Regionally Significant Development, with the outcome determined by the independent Western Regional Planning Panel.
Mayor Ashley Hall said the approval was an exciting step forward for a project that will have lasting benefits for current and future generations.
"We know the shortage of childcare places is having a significant impact across our region,“ Cr Hall said.
“Families are often facing long waitlists and limited options, while employers are finding it harder to attract and retain workers.
"This project would not be where it is today without the support of key partners and advocates. We are incredibly grateful to Origin Energy for its $2 million commitment and to Helen Dalton MP for her strong advocacy on behalf of our community."
RREE general manager Felicity Michael said the approval is a welcome development for everyone involved in the project and “most importantly, for the families who will benefit from these additional childcare places”.
“Quality early learning gives children the best possible start in life, and we're proud to be working alongside council to help meet the increasing demand for childcare in our region,” Mrs Michael said.
“We look forward to continuing the journey and seeing this important community asset become a reality.”
Council CEO Jack Bond said the approval reflected strong progress on a project that has been driven by a clear and demonstrated community need.
"The childcare shortage is one of the most pressing issues facing our region and this project is an important part of the solution," Mr Bond said.
"Receiving development approval is a significant achievement and provides confidence that we are continuing to make strong progress towards delivering this much-needed facility.
"The Perrin Park Early Learning Centre is an investment in our community's future, and every step forward brings us closer to creating more opportunities for children to access quality early learning and for parents to participate in the workforce."
The Perrin Park Early Learning Centre forms part of a broader commitment to increasing access to early childhood education and care across the Edward River region, ensuring families have greater access to the services they need to live, work and thrive locally.
