Oz Day noms closing
Edward River Council is reminding the community to help celebrate its unsung heroes, with just three weeks left to submit nominations for the 2026 Australia Day Awards.
Locals are encouraged to nominate individuals or groups who make a real difference — whether it’s a quiet achiever, a dedicated volunteer, a community group, or a young person making waves.
There are nine award categories - Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen, Sports, Arts & Culture, Community Group, and Environmental Citizen.
Edward River Council Mayor Ashley Hall nominating someone for an Australia Day Award is “a meaningful way to say thank you”.
Nominations close Friday, November 22.
Submit online at edwardriver.nsw.gov.au/Community or collect a form from the council customer service centre or library.
Lifeball invites new players
The Deni Dodgers Lifeball crew is keen to relive their glory days and share the joy of Lifeball - a fun, low-impact team sport - with a new generation of players.
It’s not just about the game, but the social connection too.
Come and try days are being held at the Deniliquin Stadium on Mondays from 9am, for the next few weeks.
Come solo or bring a friend. Wear supportive shoes.
All are welcome!
Fire ban reminder
Emergency services are reminding community members that a ‘Solid Fuel Fire Ban’ period is now in place in the Murray Valley Regional Park in Deniliquin, including Willoughby’s Beach.
It comes after police were called to the beach on Sunday after reports of a camp fire.
The fire was in a drum outside a tent. Police reported that the occupants of the tent were inside, asleep at the time.
A ban has been in place in the regional park - the forest area behind Deniliquin Memorial Park - since mid-October.
After police left the beach area, the matter was referred back to Edward River Council.
Where are the balls?
At Deniliquin Golf Club, one of its greatest success stories in recent times has been the driving range improvements.
Golfers of all skill levels can now get golf balls from the automatic dispenser, and practice their swing or just enjoy a hit, all under cover.
But the club has encountered a slight problem. Many thousands of balls are being whacked down the practice fairway, but fewer thousands are being collected by the automatic pick-up machine.
And this is starting to get expensive because the club has to go out and buy replacement practice balls.
So it’s asking two things: 1. If you get golf balls from the dispensing machine, please ensure they are only used on the practice fairway so they can be collected and re-used. 2. If you have spare secondhand golf balls you are able to donate to the club, please drop them off.
Free screening of Seen
Residents are invited to a free community screening of Seen— a powerful documentary by Parent TV that explores the vital role of connection and being truly seen in childhood.
The event will take place on Thursday, November 27, from 11am to 2pm, at the Deniliquin Town Hall.
Attendees will experience a 90-minute screening, followed by a pre-recorded Q&A session, offering deeper insights into the film’s themes and messages.
Complimentary tea, coffee, and light refreshments will be provided, go to events.humanitix.com/seen-intereach-free-community-screening-deniliquin for tickets.
