Community Xmas party fun in the rain

Despite extreme weather - steaming hot one minute, to pouring and windy the next - families still came out in good numbers for the Edward River Community Christmas Party and Deniliquin Rotary Sunrice Carols by Candlelight on Friday.

Attractions, stalls and other festivities got started about 6pm in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens.

Formalities began with Mayor Ashley Hall’s Christmas address, after which Rotary vice president Tony Kew paid tribute to long-time Rotarian and former Carols coordinator George Maddison who passed away this month.

There was also a Christmas message from Chris Taylor of the Deniliquin Baptist Church, followed by the Deniliquin Pastoral Times Think B4U Click major prize draw and Deniliquin Business Chamber Deni Light Up winners’ announcement.

While best efforts were made to proceed with the Carols, unfortunately the went and windy was just too disruptive.

Party activities did continue, however, with the jumping castle, an animal nursery, kids’ crafts and face painting all popular. Food and refreshment stalls were operating, and Santa still made a visit.

The fireworks display also went ahead, with a particularly memorable display filled with Christmas themed red and green pyrotechnics met with cheers that wafted over the town once the amazing display ended.
