Cricket cancelled because of fires

All Murray Valley Cricket Association games planned for Saturday were cancelled, as a result of bush fires burning in the region.

The fire situation near Katamatite was of particular concern, with watch and act level alerts also affecting the towns of other MCVA clubs.

The MVCA Board of Management invoked its Severe Conditions/Natural Disasters Rule, confirming that all matches will be rescheduled.

A follow‑up meeting will be held after consultation with clubs to determine new dates.

“Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the current bushfire situation,” MVCA representative Anthony Holmes said in a statement.

“Please stay safe and look after one another.”

Saturday’s matches were to be the first back since the Christmas break.

Deniliquin’s A-grade Rhinos were meant to be playing at home against Tocumwal.

B-grade were scheduled to travel to take on Cobram.
