Ms Dalton visited the school this week, touring the temporary demountable facilities now housing classrooms, specialist spaces and staff areas while the rebuild continues.
“I saw firsthand the remarkable resilience of the Deniliquin High School community,” she said.
“After last year’s tragic fire, staff have adapted quickly in temporary classrooms to ensure students continue receiving a quality education.
“I thank Principal Glen Warren and his team for their leadership during what has been a very difficult time for the whole community.”
Ms Dalton said the fire placed enormous stress on families, teachers and the wider town, and she was relieved to see how quickly the school and government agencies had responded.
Principal Glen Warren said the support from both the Department of Education and the local community had been crucial.
“The Department’s been fantastic,” he said. “As well as the community, who have just been so generous.”
In a Facebook post, Ms Dalton also said the visit reinforced how hard staff had worked to stabilise learning and maintain continuity for students.
“The high school staff have done a wonderful job at overcoming these circumstances and giving the students the best education possible,” she said.
