The not-for-profit charity ride saw a dedicated team tackle the more than 500km relay journey from the Murray River in NSW to the Moyne River at Port Fairy in Victoria following their fundraising efforts.
Deni relay member Matt Tubb said the final tally was a little difficult to calculate with in-kind donations, but estimated just over $12,000 was raised.
“We also want to give a big shoutout to Dysons who supplied the bus for transport, and to all our sponsors who were recognised on our sponsors board.”
Mr Tubb said a group of local cyclers rode with mixed conditions across both days.
“There were nine riders in our group - six Deni riders, as well as two Echuca riders and one from Cohuna.
“It was quite challenging conditions on Saturday. There were strong gusts of a south-westerly, which made it tough.
“It was a relay section on the Saturday, with everyone riding in groups and doing about 70km to 100km each, depending on the group.
“We then had really good conditions for a ‘Mickey Mouse ride’ on the Sunday from Hamilton down to Port Fairy, and on getting there it was almost swimming weather.”
Team leader Graeme Butcher said Sunday’s ride was a good effort to cap off this year’s ride.
“The team rode in different positions on the road for about 90km each on Sunday from 7am to 10am in beautiful weather, which was great.”
All the funds raised by the team will go to and are held by the Deniliquin Hospital fundraising committee.
The funds will be spent on what is needed at the hospital outside the NSW government budget.
From the 2025 relay result, the hospital has received two state-of-the-art Stryker wheelchairs and a new paediatric mannequin to assist with specialised emergency training.
Mr Tubb said this year’s ride was made even more significant due to the plan to wrap up the Cycle Relay after the 40th anniversary event in 2027.
Deni riders have been taking part since the very first relay in 1987, and in recent years local fundraising has averaged $10,000 a year.
