The idea, developed by Deniliquin St Michael’s School vice principal Ellissa Boyer, started as an in-school activity where students would replace their uniforms with the high school’s colours for one day.
It has since grown, with other schools and the wider community urged to also take part.
Donations are also being accepted to help fund wellbeing initiatives for the students and staff affected by the devastating fire, Mrs Boyer said.
As part of its show of support, St Michael’s has also been working on a public display incorporating a banner and ribbons inscribed with personal messages from students.
“The banner will be on our fence facing Edwardes St, and the ribbons will be tied on the fence next to it.
“Every child in the school has been involved in the project.
“We just wanted to let Deni High know we’re thinking of them, and we’re behind them.
“We also wanted to do something to give them a bit of a lift.
“After we shared our idea, the Deni High School P&C got wind of it and asked if they could share it with other schools.”
Donations can be made at the St Michael's School front office between 8.30am and 4pm, and also at the Deniliquin North School front office.
The Deniliquin Newsagency & Bookstore has also offered to be a donation point, as has the Deniliquin Bendigo Bank branch.
The initiative has also reached schools outside the Edward River Region, with Hay War Memorial High School confirmed to be taking part.
