Among those attending were Deputy Mayor Kellie Crossley and her husband Andrew, Deputy Inspector Jy Brown of the Murray River Police District and his wife Robyn, Deniliquin RSL Board representatives Bob Crampton and his wife Alda along with Rachelle Austin, and Deniliquin High School Year 11 advisor Genevieve Dunmore.
Organiser Peata Smith said the preparation leading up to the ball was one of the most rewarding parts of the entire event.
She explained that the debutantes and their partners trained two nights a week for the past eight weeks, and that it was wonderful watching them enjoy dancing, interact with their peers and grow in confidence as they transition into young adulthood.
She said the night itself was a clear success, with very positive feedback from families, friends and guests who attended.
Two presentations were made during the evening.
Funds from the 2026 ball, once finalised, will be donated to the Deniliquin High School P&C Committee, with a certificate of donation presented on the night to representative Wally Bulmer.
A second presentation was made to the 2025 recipients, with funds split between the Deniliquin VRA and the Deniliquin Mental Health Youth Program.
Both organisations received $1640, accepted by Jude McGill for the Mental Health Youth Program and Wes Follett, accompanied by his wife Julie, for the VRA.
Peata Smith expressed her gratitude to the many people and organisations who contributed to the success of the ball.
She offered special thanks to the Deniliquin RSL for donating the use of the facility for training nights, meetings and the event itself, and for assisting with decorating the auditorium, which she said looked amazing.
She also thanked Pip Whykes for mixing the music used on the night, Reagan Behsman for managing the music during training and the event, Rebecca Flisher for assisting with the spotlight, and Angela Thomas for providing cupcakes.
On behalf of the organising team, Peata congratulated all debutantes and their partners for 2026.
The event was coordinated by Peata Smith, Leanne Varty and Rachael Butcher.
