Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW firefighters were called to the Deniliquin Rice Mill early Tuesday, after reports of a “small electrical fire” about 6.30am.
The fire started when an electrical transformer caught alight, luckily the only damage was to the cables.
The fire didn’t spread from its starting point and was able to be extinguished.
Two fire trucks and eight firefighters attended, what they describe as a “pretty good outcome, considering what it could have been”.
The following day, an evacuation of the Deniliquin Hospital nurses’ accommodation building when an automatic fire alarm was triggered about 9.40pm Wednesday.
Staff moved residents out as a precaution while crews checked the building.
It turned out to be a false alarm, with the alarms triggered by smoke from cooking.
Firefighters ventilated the area, and it took about 20 minutes for the smoke to clear before residents were allowed to return.
