Well now is your chance, with Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW welcoming the community through its doors this Saturday, giving families the chance to explore the station, meet local firefighters and pick up practical home fire safety advice.
Stations across the state will be open from 10am to 2pm on May 9, with fire trucks, equipment displays and demonstrations running throughout the day.
Visitors can take part in station tours, watch firefighting demonstrations and learn more about smoke alarms, home fire safety and the growing risks associated with lithium‑ion batteries.
Deniliquin Acting Captain Les Booth said the open day is always a highlight for families, offering children the chance to learn about firefighting equipment and adults the opportunity to speak directly with firefighters about safety in the home.
“It’ll be a great day to check out the station. Kids can go through the fire trucks, it’ll be fun,” he said.
“There will also be fire education and safety information available.”
There will also be a sausage sizzle, children’s activities, handouts, giveaways, and behind the scenes access to the station and its equipment.
FRNSW Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell said the event is an important opportunity for firefighters to connect with the community they serve.
“Open Day is a terrific opportunity for our firefighters to interact with the community we serve,” he said.
He also encourages the community to ask questions around keeping their homes fire safe, particularly surrounding lithium-ion batteries.
“We are happy to provide advice about how to make your home safe from fire and how to prevent lithium‑ion batteries from overheating.
“Lithium‑ion batteries aren’t just found in e‑bikes, they’re used to power everyday items from an electric toothbrush to vacuum cleaners.
