Mr Bodey said the open age sessions will be available to anyone in the community, with suggestions they would be held on Wednesday nights.
But before session times and dates are confirmed, they need to gauge interest from the community.
“We anticipate starting with a class of 20, but if there was more interest, we could look at the options,” Mr Bodey said.
“It’s open to people who want to learn a bit of music and make some noise.”
To register your interest for this upcoming opportunity, call Mr Bodey on 0417 272 310.
Big result from Big Freeze
The Ritchie’s IGA team took over the car park of the local supermarket on Friday afternoon for a Big Freeze fundraiser.
The charity initiative raises awareness of and funding for motor neurone disease research and support.
Three staff members volunteered to do the ice bucket challenge as part of the fundraiser - Stacey, Riley and Kodi.
But if the community donated enough, two long serving staff members would also join them.
If the tally reached $500, Alex Rose would brave the icy waters.
And if $1000 was raised, department manager Skeet Arthur would be bucketed.
Suffice to say, it was enough to encourage a flurry of donations and all five staff members ended the day cold.
Special guests were invited to tip the buckets, which included Edward River Council Mayor Ashley Hall and former supermarket owners Glenn Beames and Rob Hallum.
A total of $2665.65 was raised to be donated to the Fight MND Foundation.
CWA meeting
The community meeting about the re-formation of the Country Women’s Association in Deniliquin will be held this Sunday.
It will be held at The Crossing Cafe from 2pm.
Helping to host the Deniliquin information session will be CWA of Victoria representative Gwen White.
The Deniliquin CWA went into recess in early 2022 when it was unable to elect a full executive committee. It was believed to have been prompted by the departure of some long serving members.
Anyone interested in learning more about the CWA’s role and the benefits of being a member is invited to attend.
For more information about the information and efforts to reactivate the Deniliquin CWA, contact Sarah Hooke on sarahhooke@outlook.com.
Time capsule
The time has come! The Rotary Club of Deniliquin’s next time capsule will go into the ground tomorrow, and remain buried until 2050.
The time capsule will be buried in Gorman Park near the Edward River Library (at the corner of Napier and Whitelock Sts).
Community members are welcome to attend the re-burial tomorrow, from noon.
Rotary will host one of its famous barbecues.
Comp deadline nears
Time is running out for writers wishing to enter the Country Press NSW writing competition.
Country Press is the peak body representing independent regional newspapers, and is 125 this year.
The competition is open to primary and secondary school students, and adults, living in readership areas of the Country Press NSW newspaper network, including Deniliquin and the Southern Riverina.
Entry forms are available from the Deniliquin Pastoral Times office, or can be downloaded from cpnsw.org.au. Entries must be received by July 4.
Short stories entered may be on any topic or theme, or set in any time period, but must have one special inclusion: the words “local newspaper” must be included as part of the story.
Price increase coming
The cost of the Pastoral Times will be increasing from July 1.
The 50c increase will mean your local paper will be $2.50 per edition.
McPherson Media Group chairman Ross McPherson said the increase reflects the cost of quality journalism - especially the kind of local reporting that only we still invest in.
“Your support of our papers helps keep local journalism, local jobs and local businesses alive,” he said.
Those impacted by the increase might consider taking up a digital subscription, which gives you access to mobile apps, websites and audio publications. This is available free to anyone already registered for paper deliveries with Deniliquin Newsagency.
If you have any questions about your subscription, call 1300 834 619 or email customerservice@mmg.com.au.
