Kyabram Year 10 student Sarah Varcoe is eagerly anticipating her first flight ahead of her attendance at a Vietnam War commemorative program in Canberra this month.
Sarah’s artwork won the Honouring Australian Vietnam Veterans competition with a creative piece.
Her collection of war-time newspaper articles expressed how different parts of the world felt about the war at the time.
Sarah explained that her artwork was created by merging two of her interests.

Blues battle to end
Rumbalara used the motivation of securing a spot in the Murray Football League finals to power to victory over Tongala on Saturday.
The Blues had a dip and went down fighting 16.7 (103) to 10.5 (65) after being only three goals down at the main break.
In fact, Tongala got within a couple of goals in the third term but couldn’t sustain the pressure.
After kicking the first four goals of the game, Rumbalara kicked eight second-half goals to Tongala’s five to run out easy winners.

Crop a cop!
Here’s your chance to Crop-A-Cop — if you dare.
Kyabram police will join with police around Australia seeking sponsorship to have their locks cropped.
The annual event, Crop-A-Cop, seeks to raise funds for cancer research and caring facilities for kids with cancer.
For every $1000 raised, a Kyabram policeman will volunteer his head for the shave.
And with the likes of Danny O’Brien, Pat Storer and company on the Kyabram police books, the money should be pouring in from all sectors of the community in no time.

Bulldogs no certainties
Tatura might be warm premiership favourites to complete back-to-back-to-back GVL premiership wins in eight weeks, but they are from an over-the-line proposition.
A depleted Kyabram proved this on Sunday when it pushed the Bulldogs every centimetre of the way in an absorbing contest, played in surprisingly good conditions at Kyabram.
Tatura was able to call on its greater experience at the finish to get home by 19 points, but it was not convincing enough to suggest it will have Kyabram’s measure again if the Bombers can put their best side on the park.
Captain Rusty McDonell, key defender Ryan White, the Bombers’ most vigorous contester Andrew Trimby and rising star Mick Glover all watched Sunday’s game for the sidelines.

Mother, daughter share honours
A mother and daughter won two of the three awards at the Church of England ‘Return of the ’76 Debutantes’ Ball at Tongala last Friday night.
The Princess of Debutantes award was won by Miss Margo Parker of Kyabram, who was selected from 43 debs.
Selecting the princess was a difficult task for the judges, as all girls looked elegant in their white frocks.
Margo was presented with a sash and gift by Mrs Robert Taylor of Timmering.

Ky competes for shield
Kyabram shooters competed recently in the Murray Goulburn Region of the Victorian Field and Game Association annual shield shoot.
The Bert Brisbane Memorial Shield Shoot was hosted by the Nathalia branch on its new simulated shooting ground at Picola this year.
The new ground was a real winner as far as the many shooters attending were concerned.
The ground sports eight traps, all set in difficult places around the timbered area of the ‘Narioka’ Reserve.
