A wave of interested families flocked to the George St station for a look behind the scenes, and to meet the local firefighters.
Deputy Captain Les Booth estimated they showed up to 400 people through the station and the equipment used.
He said a few adults also inquired about becoming a firefighter, with recruitment for Deniliquin taking place right now.
On display for families to explore up close were both of the brigade’s modern appliances, and its historic Bedford fire truck.
Children were allowed to sit behind the wheel of any vehicle, and to sound the fire sirens.
Children lined up for a turn at knocking down some traffic cones with a stream of water blasting out of the fire hose.
Captain Marty Smith said the brigade’s fire simulator was another popular activity.
“It is an LED screen which simulates fires of different severities, and you point a laser portable fire extinguisher or a branch (fire hose nozzle) at it until the fire is out.
“People could also take a look at our thermal imaging equipment, our drone and the gas detector, and we provided a barbecue to keep everyone fuelled for the day.
“We had quite a few people flow through over the four hours, and we had beautiful weather. Families were coming by before or after sports, which was good to see.”
As is tradition, each youngster went home with a show bag including a fire hat and handy fire safety information.
