Cancer Council volunteers are again joining forces with Denise Phillips at My Shop for the annual Daffodil Day cake stall, to be held Thursday, August 20 outside the store at 40 Napier St.
Coordinator Irene Davies is calling on locals to lend a hand.
“Donations of cakes and slices would be much appreciated,” she said.
“We expect to be quite down on our usual supplies of goodies.”
Morning tea will run from 10am to 1pm, with a raffle, daffodils, badges and homemade treats available.
Deniliquin Florist at 212 Cressy St will also host its annual Daffodil Day celebration.
There’ll be a sausage sizzle, raffle, cupcakes, and plenty of flowers to brighten the day, all in support of the Cancer Council’s vital work.
Burnt toast triggers hospital alarm
Firefighters were called to the Deniliquin Hospital nursing quarters at 10.12am on Tuesday after an automated fire alarm activated, prompting a full brigade response.
Crews arrived to find no fire, just some burnt toast.
The incident was resolved quickly, with firefighters confirming nothing more than breakfast gone wrong.
No damage was recorded, and staff were able to return to normal duties once the building was cleared.
Police Roadshow in Deni
Residents interested in a policing career will have the chance to speak directly with NSW Police Force recruitment officers when the Regional Recruitment Roadshow arrives in Deniliquin next month.
The roadshow is designed to make it easier for people in regional areas to join the NSW Police Force while staying connected to their families, lifestyle and community.
Attendees will be able to gain insight into the application process, training pathway and the opportunities available for officers who want to serve in their hometown.
The session will be held at Deniliquin High School on Wednesday, September 2, with officers on hand to answer questions and guide prospective applicants through the steps involved in joining the force.
The NSW Police Force says the roadshow is ideal for anyone wanting to “make a difference where it matters most”, encouraging locals to consider becoming a Cop in Your Hometown.
