Street collection kicked off at 9am, with about 40 determined fire brigade and SES volunteers eager to surpass last year’s total in celebration of the statewide CFA 75-year commitment to the Good Friday Appeal.
The fundraising continued at half-time of the Kyabram vs Rochester football game for a blanket appeal, while volunteers made their way through the crowd with their collection tins.
“I honestly didn’t think we would beat last year’s total, given what’s going on around us with the price of fuel and all that sort of stuff, but for us to beat last year’s total … by $50, is absolutely amazing,” Kyabram Fire Brigade’s Mick Crompton said.
One of Kyabram’s smallest volunteers, Millie Dean, stepped in to help with street collection for the Good Friday Appeal.

The funds raised will support the Royal Children’s Hospital, assisting with research, equipment and patient-centred care for children.
Mr Crompton extended his thanks on behalf of the fire brigade to the community for digging deep in these trying times.
“It’s just simply amazing that given the cause it is, people just keep on giving and giving.”

Mr Crompton said planning would start nice and early for next year’s appeal as the Kyabram Fire Brigade reaches a huge milestone.
“So next year, for us, will be 50 years for our involvement as a local brigade collecting for the good Friday appeal,” he said.
“That’s something we will be looking forward to and obviously coming up with some more ideas on how we can raise more money to break more records.”
Other local communities also stood up, producing some amazing totals, including Colbinabbin $3926.59, Girgarre $3883.28, Nathalia $20,615.25, Rushworth $3519.30, Stanhope $5571.11, Tongala $12,007.49 and Tatura $20,909.37.
