The comprehensive and informative event will look at outcomes of implementing on-farm habitat enhancement measures, whilst learning about key cultural heritage features and current incentive options for landholders.
It will also look at the environmental management activities on ‘Old Coree’, which is a Rice Research Australia Pty Ltd managed property.
Murray Local Landcare Coordinator and event coordinator Janet Manzin said the day begins at 9.30am, with morning tea at 10am and the day finishing at about 2.30pm.
Morning sessions cover the history of the property, site walks of the managed vegetation areas and the wetland.
‘‘We are really excited to hear from presenters including Russell Ford, Nigel Jones from the New South Wales Biodiversity Conservation Trust and Ali Borrell from the Murray Darling Wetlands Working Group, who will all offer great insight into biodiversity,’’ Mrs Manzin said.
After lunch in the homestead garden, participants will walk along the creek to see the cultural heritage sites, including scar trees and cooking mounds.
The day will include information on direct seeding, available incentives and government initiatives.
The day is open to all interested people, with the content relating closely to the ‘community’ pillar of the rice industry’s Sustainability Framework — the ‘Ricegrowers’ Promise’.
This grower driven framework is supported by Murray Local Land Services through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
Old Coree is approximately 20km west of Jerilderie on the Conargo-Jerilderie Rd.
