At its December council meeting, council awarded the second stage of water main relocation from Ochtertyre St to Wood St to Deni Civil for $503,971.08 plus GST.
The company recently completed the section between Harfleur and Wood Sts, installing a new larger water main to improve water pressure and security, ensuring critical services are ready ahead of major roadworks.
The contract for the first stage of civil works on the Wood St to Harfleur St section has been awarded to Quarrell Civil Construction Pty Ltd for $1,440,216.89 plus GST.
This package includes demolition, earthworks, stormwater drainage, kerbs, driveways and footpaths, landscaping, signage and line marking.
The contractor will also manage traffic and community notifications to maintain safe access for pedestrians and road users throughout construction.
Quarrells is a full-service regional civil contractor with a strong track record across Victoria and southern NSW, including meeting quality criteria required to deliver work on behalf of Transport for NSW.
The company previously delivered council's Cressy St and Waring Gardens streetscape upgrades in 2020.
Edward River Council Mayor Cr Ashley Hall said the decisions mark an important milestone for the much-anticipated upgrade.
''I'm pleased to see these contracts awarded to capable operators who've delivered successfully for council before,“ he said.
“The tenders from Deni Civil and Quarrell Civil Construction demonstrated value for money, quality, and the capacity to deliver.”
Both contractors are expected to start work in late February 2026, allowing time for procurement and quality documentation needed to ensure the highest compliance standards.
''We're pleased to see these next stages get under way,“ Cr Hall said.
“I encourage residents and businesses to visit our project hub to stay up to date,'' Cr Hall said.
The Hardinge St Road Reconstruction Project is a staged upgrade of about 936m of Hardinge St in Deniliquin to improve safety, access and amenity for residents, businesses and all road users.
The works include renewed road pavement, a concrete median with channelised turning lanes, upgraded drainage, new water mains, new kerb and gutter, new footpaths, landscaping, signage and line marking.
Stage two civil works from Wood St to Ochtertyre St will be tendered later in 2026, with stage three being pavement reconstruction and to be undertaken by Transport for NSW in early 2027.
