Registrations are now open for the 2025 Deniliquin Christmas Lights Competition, presented by the Deniliquin Business Chamber.
Whether you're decorating your home or business, now’s the time to get involved and help light up the district this festive season.
All registered displays will be featured on a community lights map, published in the Pastoral Times on December 16.
Not feeling competitive? You can still be included by selecting ‘Just Spreading the Joy’ during registration.

Library’s reading challenge
The Edward River Library is inviting young readers in grades K-9 to take part in its Summer Reading Challenge, running from December 1 to February 5.
Participants can win prizes, discover new stories, and keep their reading skills sharp during the break.
Parents and older kids aren’t left out either, with a 16+ Summer Reading Challenge also on offer, encouraging the whole family to get involved.

Oz Day nominations closing
Edward River Council is reminding the community to help celebrate its unsung heroes, with nominations closing this Saturday, November 22, for the 2026 Australia Day Awards.
Locals are encouraged to nominate individuals or groups who make a real difference — whether it’s a quiet achiever, a dedicated volunteer, a community group, or a young person making waves.
There are nine award categories - Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen, Sports, Arts & Culture, Community Group, and Environmental Citizen.
