The Deniliquin Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay team will host its annual fundraiser in partnership with the Deniliquin Boat Club this Friday night.
Relay member Matt Tubb said making this year’s fundraiser even more poignant is the plan to wrap up the Cycle Relay after the 40th anniversary event in 2027.
Mr Tubb said the organising committee - which is based outside Deniliquin - made the decision based on issues securing enough volunteers to run the charity ride each year.
This gives the Deni team two more years to raise as much money for Deniliquin Hospital as they can before the charity initiative ends.
Deni riders have been taking part since the very first relay in 1987, and in recent years local fundraising for has averaged $10,000 a year.
These funds are used to purchase items from Deniliquin Hospital’s wish list, which are items not traditionally government funded but considered vital for patient care and comfort.
From the 2025 relay result, the hospital has received two state-of-the-art Stryker wheelchairs and a new paediatric mannequin to assist with specialised emergency training.
You can support the relay fundraising efforts this year by simply enjoying a great night at the Deniliquin Boat Club this Friday.
Entry is free, but there will be a silent auction with a host of prizes thanks to generous sponsors.
There will be a barbecue dinner and live entertainment from Lachie Downs, and of course the bar will be open.
The evening’s festivities kick off about 6pm.
Meanwhile, Deniliquin’s cycle team continue to train and prepare for the relay, which will be held on March 28 and 29.
Over those two days, the team and other relay teams will traverse a course of more than 500km between Echuca on the Murray River to the Moyne River at Port Fairy in Victoria.
