Landale - the son of Clive and Suellen Landale, and grandson of the late Hunter and Peg Landale - was waived by his former team, the Houston Rockets, but was able to quickly secure a new deal with division rivals, the Memphis Grizzlies.
This will see him join some of the league's premier talent, including high-flying point guard Ja Morant and defensive anchor Jaren Jackson Jr.
Landale will be downgrading in terms of team success.
His former team, the Houston Rockets, finished second in the western conference, while the Grizzlies just snuck into the play-offs in eighth position.
But at Houston, Landale only had limited playing opportunity behind NBA All-Star Alperun Sengun, and the kiwi strongman, Steven Adams.
He was still able to produce an average of five points per game, however, and three rebounds in just 13 minutes across 56 appearances.
Landale’s playing time is likely to improve with the Grizzlies given two teammates - former defensive player of the year Jackson Jr and NBA All-rookie player Zach Edey - both requiring surgery on ankle and foot injuries.
Landale - who was centre for the Australian Boomers before returning to the US - could be making his summer league debut for the Grizzlies this weekend. The game will be played from 8am today, Australian time.
