Local books impress

The cover of popular book, Deniliquin and District Trucking History.

Local author Garry Baker has received positive feedback from his two latest books.

Deniliquin and District Transport History, launched at the recent Truck Show Wall of Fame dinner, has been especially popular in the trucking community and among families of the companies and individuals that are featured.

It has been described as “an easy read”, and features numerous photos that depict changes in transport over more than a century.

“I have been approached by a number of people since the launch and they are all impressed with the book; the feedback has been very positive,” Mr Baker said.

Before Christmas, Mr Baker attended the launch in Lakes Entrance of the latest memoir he has written, titled Walking My Path... building memories, which is the story of Bianca Bassett.

Bianca, who started her education at Deniliquin’s Edward Public School, was born with a rare blood disease and as a result required regular transfusions and daily injections, with medication pumped into her system over 10 hours.

It contributed to a serious illness in 2016 and the complications included deep vein thrombosis, which led to a leg amputation.

During her lengthy stay in the Intensive Care Unit Bianca believes she died, and vividly recalls the bright lights of heaven.

Her recovery and advocacy for disability services is a story of positivity and inspiration.

After the book’s launch, Bianca said she was “overwhelmed by the support and the feedback from those who have read it and those who are reading it!”.

Comments from people who have read the book have included, “it’s a great read... you are inspirational”, “a must read”, “I needed a box if tissues”, “I laughed, I cried, I loved it!” and one avid reader who stated, “this is the best book I have ever read”.

Another stated, “I’ve finished reading, couldn’t put it down although I had to take a break occasionally because I couldn’t see through the tears”.

Deniliquin and District Trucking History is available for $50 from The Depot in Hardinge St, Deniliquin.

Walking My Path... building memories is available for $30 from Deniliquin Newsagency and Bookstore, and the Deniliquin Pastoral Times office.
