But she watched on in amazement as demand took the price to an auction topping $27,000.
Lot 21, Kit Dreamer Rhapsody IMP-ET-UK, was sold to Isabella Osborne from Austral Eden, NSW as part of the ST Genetics sale.
Run by Dairy Livestock Services, the auction generated a gross total of $319,000.
“I was hoping for about $10,000 and dreaming for $15,000, and when it started ticking up to $14,000, $16,000, $18,000 and then higher I looked over at my friend in shock.
“The money earned certainly paid for the endeavour to get her, putting me back in the clear.
“I purchased my own property near Finley about 18 months ago, about 20 acres, so it helps there and with my plans to keep showing heifers.”
Ms Davidson said Kit Dreamer Rhapsody IMP-ET-UK was the first cow produced from embryos purchased from a strong Scottish bloodline, and the result is promising for the future.
She was sired by Superstar Dreamer and from Kedar Rhapsody, EX 95 a major UK Show Champion and dam of some seven EX daughters.
“My motto is you don’t sell anything you wouldn’t buy yourself, and I only chose to sell her because all my other cows are A2 and she isn’t.
“I saw some embryos advertised a little while back and got in the eggs from Scotland.
“I implanted two of them and got her (Kit Dreamer Rhapsody IMP-ET-UK), and still have another three left.
“It’s a good family to have; it’s a very successful family in Scotland.”
From the remaining embryos, Ms Davidson is hopeful of another female she can get embryos from herself.
“I don’t have a lot of Swiss families, as I normally have Holsteins.
“I’m not necessarily opposed to having a non-A2 cow, but where I work - with the Marshalls at Blighty for the last 16 years; we’re like a family - their business structure is A2, so I’ve just fit in with that too.
“Kit Dreamer Rhapsody IMP-ET-UK was born in Blighty and in preparation for the auction I moved her to my own property at Finley.”
