Among them were a number of participants from the Deniliquin area.
Organised by Community Living & Respite Service (CLRS), the event raises vital funds for the Opening Doors Project - an initiative that’s already made a significant impact by building three homes and 12 units, supporting 22 people with disability to live more independently and inclusively.
We aim to bring you some of the results from local participants in Friday’s edition.
If you took part, feel free to send your results and any photos to eamon.kurta@denipt.com.au.
Deni locals are found all over
You may have seen a familier face on Sussan Ley’s social media as she shared a picture from Kununurra, Western Australia recently.
The new Liberal party leader was in Kunanurra “listening to people doing the real work”.
She was meeting with community leaders, apprentices and social workers to hear what is and isn’t working for them.
She snapped a pic with some of the workers at a local establishment, and wouldn’t you know it, Shane Blake from Deniliquin was among those pictured.
Galah gets in on Rovers action

The Deni Rovers Football & Netball Club had a surprise crowd member for their game against Mathoura on the weekend.
A galah was spotted watching the game from it’s nest within a telephone pole.
Police showing support
Also spotted at Saturday’s Rovers game were some of our ‘boys in blue’.
Two officers dropped down to Memorial Park to have a quick look at the junior football action, and to take advantage of the coffee van that operated at the oval during home games.
The officers were able to connect with the community and support a local business, a double win for local law enforcement.
Auskick comes to an end
Auskick had it’s final session for the year on Sunday, which concluded with a parents vs kids game.
The kids were awarded with medals for their hard work and improvement over the course of the sessions.
We’ll have more on the day in Friday’s edition.
While it was the last day of the Auskick program in Deni, the season’s not quite over the for the young footballers.
Three teams are off to Rand this coming Sunday to take part in a nine-a-side round robin tournament.
Best of luck to them.
Deni Rams come and try
The Deniliquin Rams are inviting kids born in 2017 to train with the team and see what Rams footy is like.
The aim is to encourage some more youngsters to join their junior teams.
The dates for the training sessions are this Thursday and next Thursday, August 14.
A meal will be provided after next week’s session.
“We’d love to see some new faces out on the field and be part of our club,” the Rams said.
