Lourene re-elected to lead health committee

Lourene Liebenberg will lead the Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee for another year, after being re-elected chair last month.

She will lead a committee of new and existing members, who all have the common goal of supporting and improving local health services.

Dan Salmon has stepped in to the vice chair’s role and Lynda Barclay takes on the publicity officer role, while Lyn Bond remains as the clinical representative.

Rachelle Austin will once again be the Murrumbidgee Local Health District staff representative on LHAC.

Other Deni LHAC members include Jean Haynes and newcomers Cathy Cleary, Karen Bradford and Darren Mitchell.

“Between them, they have diverse representation and connections to many services, groups and individuals within our community,” Mrs Liebenberg said.

“We are very grateful for their willingness to jump in and be an advocate for health in our community.”

At the AGM, Deniliquin Health Service cluster manager Craig McColm thanked all members of the outgoing committee for their dedication, and welcomed the new members of the committee.

Mrs Liebenberg said following the AGM, members stayed on for a general meeting to discuss important health issues for Deniliquin town and community.

“We are excited about the projects planned and have a clear advocacy agenda as we progress through 2023,” she said.

“Collaboration and partnerships between all agencies, services and groups remain a priority for us, ensuring we put helpful and accurate information into the community about a diverse range of services and initiatives available to our community.”

Deni LHAC also took time to welcome new Deniliquin Health Service employee Matt Teves, who is the Middleton Gorman Wing nurse unit manager.

“Matt brings with him many years of experience working in the Philippines, New Zealand, and more recently in Australia,” Mrs Liebenberg said.

“Clinically, Matt has worked in a range of settings including aged care, surgery, cardiothoracic and ICU.

“Please join us in welcoming Matt to our lovely community and introducing him to all things Deni.”

Other areas of discussion included the Women’s Health Night held on March 22, and the 2023 priority areas of mental health, aged care, cancer screening and the consumer experience of health care in our community.
