The construction started yesterday morning and the tree was up and shining by the afternoon.
The sparkling lights have brought festivities to Deniliquin, after all it’s not Christmas without a tree.
The Christmas tree is an Edward River Council project.
It provides a great backdrop for photos, but people are asked not to touch the tree or its ornaments.
CCTV is operational in the Waring Gardens.
Shop local this Black Friday
Another American tradition is becoming the norm in Australia - Black Friday.
This is the day following Thanksgiving. It is already one of the busiest shopping days of the year in the United States, and is growing in popularity in Oz.
With Thanksgiving falling on the fourth Thursday of November, Black Friday is today - Friday, November 28.
Its online counterpart, Cyber Monday, falls on Monday, December 1.
As you read through the pages of today’s edition, you’ll find some of our local businesses have some great Black Friday deals for you.
Season for giving
If you’re looking for an opportunity to give this festive season, there are many local ways to bring someone joy this Christmas.
Many local groups are offering gifts and non-perishable food items to be distributed before Christmas.
If you can spare a few things for those in need this year, add them to your shopping lists.
Some places to donate this year include The Deni LHAC Tree of Giving in the foyer of the Deniliquin Hospital and Edward River Library Book Giving Tree at the Edward River Library.
We are sure readers in a position to give will discover these and many more options locally to make someone’s Christmas a little brighter.
High school students out in the community
Deniliquin High School students have been pretty busy positively representing the school during the last week.
The DHS Music Ensemble and Drumline travelled around the district on Tuesday and Wednesday to play at Edward, Deni North, Mathoura and Deni South public schools earlier this week.
Keep an eye out for a wrap on this program in Tuesday’s Pastoral Times.
On Wednesday, students also enjoyed a practical hospitality skills day with the Coach House Hotel and Deniliquin Golf Club.
The High School thanked all involved in hosting their students.
In the last week, students have also been completing the Great Vic Bike Ride and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions representing their school and their town.
Jay’s film screening
Another Deniliquin High School student representing the school is Jay Bennett, with her short film 'Returning to Me'.
We introduced this project through an article a few weeks back, and the short film now will feature in this year's Spec Fest.
It’s a free creative and performing arts festival held outside Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena during School Spectacular today and tomorrow.
The film was also screened at the 2025 NSW Public Schools Aspire State Drama Festival last month.
