To mark the week, Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group - supported by Edward River Council, and working in collaboration with U3A - is hosting an all-of-community event at Deniliquin Town Hall between 10am and 2pm.
All volunteers are invited to join as a group, or with a few of their friends, to enjoy the free ‘morning tea’ on offer.
“There is also an expo with about 20 groups participating, showing what they have on offer for volunteers wanting to get involved,” Deni MHAG member Lourene Liebenberg said.
“As part of the Deni MHAG Five Ways to Wellbeing initiative, research shows that helping others makes you feel valuable, positive and is good for one’s mental health and wellbeing.”
Anyone looking to join a volunteer group can meet with these groups, have a chat, and see what is involved.
There will also be talks held by the groups throughout the day, with the event kicking off with an official opening by Mayor Peta Betts at 10am.
The first talk time is at 10.45am and based on charities and service groups, with health groups to present from 11.30am.
At 12.15pm there is a spot for interest groups to take to the microphone, and at 1pm there will be a recognition by ERC for all the emergency services volunteer groups and everyone in community who helped during the floods.
There will also be a giant thank you card that people can sign to show their appreciation for a group or an individual.
