“Labor’s net zero plan isn’t working and Farrer families are experiencing the consequences, with skyrocketing power prices and food prices.”

That is the message The Nationals Senator Canavan shared at a special forum in Deniliquin on Tuesday night, aimed at introducing his party’s plan to ‘dump’ net zero targets.
Senator Canavan and the party’s Farrer by-election candidate Brad Robertson were joined by 30 voters for a ‘The shocking true cost of net zero’ forum at the Deniliquin Coach House Hotel.
Senator Canavan it was focused on “the impact of net zero on farming land” and people were very engaged.
He said there were particular concerns about carbon farming and ‘carbon credits’, which he described as “Basin Plan 2.0 for rural Australia”.
“Everywhere I go during the Farrer by-election campaign, families are telling me how much they are hurting,” Senator Canavan said.
“Under Labor’s net zero, electricity prices are up by 38 per cent and gas prices are up by 42 per cent.
“The Nationals, as part of a future Coalition government, will dump net zero, while keeping all energy options on the table, including nuclear.
“Only the Nationals will ensure energy bills are far cheaper for Farrer families, rather than Labor’s $9 trillion disastrous net zero plan, which would put Medicare and NDIS at risk.
“OECD countries have been cutting their emissions by one per cent per year, while Australia has been cutting its emissions by about two per cent per year - double the OECD rate.
“We should do our fair share to reduce global emissions, but not more than the rest of the world.”
Mr Robertson said the Deniliquin forum was important because “voters deserved transparency”.
Nationals' candidate for Farrer Brad Robertson speaks at the energy forum in Deniliquin.
“Our common-sense approach is in contrast to Labor’s reckless race to net zero and our plan is cheaper, better and fairer,” Mr Robertson said.
“After four years of Labor, Australian’s wages are going backward, living standards have collapsed, and our way of life is under threat.
“The Nationals will not only dump net zero, we will ‘drill, baby drill’ for oil, gas and coal, to rebuild the economy and take the pressure off Farrer families.
“Too many people have told me their concerns about the shocking true cost of net zero and how it is destroying their life – we need to make urgent changes not just for Farrer, but the future of Australia.”
