Need for support grows

A generous district community has helped cover more than $100,000 in support for local cancer sufferers, but more is needed.

In a report presented to its recent AGM, Can Assist Deniliquin highlighted that income for the charity fell almost $15,000 short of the support required for applicants this year.

While still grateful for all support and donations received, this has prompted Can Assist Deniliquin to suggest Christmas-themed ways to donate before the year is up.

You can make your celebration mean even more by hosting a Christmas party with a purpose.

Gather your friends, family or colleagues and raise funds for Can Assist through a backyard barbecue, office lunch, or community get-together.

At the Can Assist Deniliquin AGM, the treasurer reported total expenditure of $112,000 for the 2025 financial year, and income of $98,572.

Expenditure included $73,350 paid out to assist our locals with travel and accommodation expenditure related to cancer treatment.

Another $31,000 was paid for medical and pharmaceutical expenses, while about $9000 was paid for general living expenses.

The income for the financial year included $92,947 donated through the local community.

“While the year saw a deficit of $13,000 at the end of June 2025, the ongoing generosity and further fundraising efforts since then have enabled the committee to continue to assist those locals who continue to need to travel for their cancer treatment,” Can Assist Deniliquin said.

“The Can Assist committee would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to this wonderful local community for their ongoing willingness to fundraise and donate their proceeds to us.

“This continued kindness allows the committee to respond and assist the people of Deniliquin who are requiring medical attention and treatment with their cancer diagnosis.

“We are very grateful to be able to continue to assist.

“If you know of anyone in our community who is undertaking a cancer treatment, please encourage them to make contact so that we can assist.”
