The project, which has been development for many months, strengthens long-term early education options for Deniliquin families.
The new preschool will operate from the purpose-built Intereach Family Centre at 366 Trickett St, offering 118 places each week.
Minor renovation works will take place at the Family Centre in the new year to prepare the space for preschool operations.
Co-CEO Yvette Buhagiar said Intereach has been working to address Deniliquin’s critical childcare shortage, which continues to place significant pressure on families, employers and the broader community.
“Early education and care in Deniliquin is at crisis point, and families are carrying the weight of that every day,” she said.
“We have been diligently developing our preschool plan throughout the year to ensure local children have access to safe, high-quality early learning close to home.
“Our preschool will offer a play-based, nurturing early learning program that supports children's social, emotional and early academic development. Through meaningful play, supportive relationships, children aged 3-6 years will build confidence, independence, friendships and school-readiness skills.
“Opening this preschool is about giving local families the chance to return to work, to participate in the community, and to know their children are learning and thriving in a safe and nurturing environment.”
Mrs Buhagiar said the new preschool reflected the organisation’s long-term commitment to investing in strong, connected regional communities.
“Intereach has been part of the Deniliquin community for over 50 years. We have a history of delivering high-quality early childhood and family services. We are local and deeply understand the community and its needs,” she said.
“Our Family Day Care program spans regional communities across two states, and our Out Of School Hours (OOSH) services in Deniliquin, and more recently in Barham, have been trusted by families for many years.
“This preschool is the next step in that journey. We’re ready, we’re prepared, and we’re excited to open a service that truly reflects the needs and strengths of this community.”
All governance, regulatory and quality requirements are well progressed, and Intereach has started recruiting a team of dedicated early childhood educators and support staff.
To attract the highest-quality professionals through SEEK, Intereach is offering a robust and competitive employment package, including professional development opportunities, wellbeing support, and relocation assistance.
Recognising the current shortage of rental properties in Deniliquin, Intereach can also provide secure housing options for incoming staff, helping new team members settle comfortably into the community.
While enrolments for the new preschool have not opened, families will be invited to register their interest in early 2026.
The Deniliquin preschool is part of Intereach’s growing focus on early childhood education, following the recent announcement of a new 108-place early learning centre in South Albury, backed by $4.35 million in NSW Government funding.
Intereach is also exploring other opportunities to expand early learning access across its regional footprint.
Intereach is also awaiting the outcome of a separate funding application that, if successful, would significantly increase early childhood education options in the Deniliquin area by redeveloping existing Intereach properties into a dedicated early learning centre and family hub.
This would allow Intereach to move efficiently, with redevelopment able to begin on assets it already holds within the community.
“Regional families deserve the same opportunities as families in metropolitan areas,” Mrs Buhagiar said.
“Whether it’s Deniliquin, South Albury or beyond, our goal is to help build communities where children can learn, grow and feel connected – close to home.”
