Nominating time ticks away

Less than a week remains for local government election nominations to be lodged with the NSW Electoral Commission.

The nomination period opened on Monday and closes on Wednesday, August 14.

The ballot will then be drawn on August 15.

Edward River Council needs 10 candidates or more to trigger an election, with nine council seats up for grabs.

Murray River Council also has nine councillors, with three to be elected in each of its wards - Great Murray (which includes Mathoura), Greater Wakool and Moama.

Four or more candidates must be received in each ward to trigger a vote.

If no vote is triggered, candidates are automatically elected. Any remaining vacancies will then be subject to a by-election.

Voting will take place on September 14.
