Berrigan Shire Council has confirmed one of its trucks was involved in the crash at Tocumwal earlier today.
It has advised that the Newell Highway is closed between Silo Rd and Tuppal Rd, and advises all motorists to avoid the area.
“Emergency services and council officers are on site, and council is working closely with authorities as the situation continues to evolve,” the shire said.
“Traffic is currently being diverted via Silo Rd.”
EARLIER, 1pm:
Emergency services are currently on scene at a “serious motor vehicle crash” on the Newell Highway, near Old Adcocks Rd, Tocumwal.
There were reports of a crash involving possible persons trapped and vehicles alight.
The incident was first reported around 12 pm, with two Rural Fire Service trucks responding.
By 1pm, Fire + Rescue NSW, police and ambulance crews had arrived.
Back-up support has also been dispatched from multiple agencies in Deniliquin.
All occupants were able to exit the vehicle, and one patient has been transported to hospital by helicopter. Other individuals are being assessed at the scene.
Police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
No further details are available at this time, and people are asked to avoid the area if they can.
