Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease in dogs, and the clinic is urging all owners to ensure their pets are up to date with vaccinations.
Puppies require three boosters at 6-8 weeks, 10-12 weeks, and 14-16 weeks, while adult dogs need an annual booster to maintain protection.
“If your dog isn’t up to date, please call to book your booster shots ASAP to protect your pooch,” the vet advised.
Cod season now open
Recreational fishers across inland NSW can once again cast a line for Murray Cod, with the season reopening yesterday, Monday, December 1, following the annual three-month breeding closure.
The closure, which runs from September 1 to November 30, protects cod during spawning and has helped boost fish numbers across the state.
Anglers are reminded to follow regulations: a daily bag limit of two, a possession limit of four, and all cod under 55cm or over 75cm must be released.
The NSW Department of Primary Industries urges fishers to respect the rules to ensure this treasured native sportfish thrives for future generations.
Christmas is in the air
The town Christmas tree is not the only way Edward River Council will be brightening up the community this Christmas.
But it certainly looks a treat all completed now, thanks to council’s outdoor staff and community & economy team.
Council will deliver its annual Community Christmas Party in the Waring Gardens on Friday, December 19, including fun and games for all the family.
It will be followed directly by Carols by Candlelight, traditionally hosted by the Rotary Club of Deniliquin with support from the community.
The evening promises music, family fun, and plenty of festive cheer as residents come together to celebrate.
Support for Deni High
As with the rest of the community, the Pastoral Times would like to express our sadness following the recent fire at Deniliquin High School.
With more than half of our staff having attended Deni High themselves, or having their own children attend the school, we share a strong connection with the school.
Our thoughts are with the students, staff, and families during this difficult time, and we stand alongside the community in supporting Deni High as it recovers and rebuilds.
Deni film society final showing of the year
The Deniliquin Film Society will close out its 2024 season with a screening of Memoir of a Snail on Friday, December 12, at the Deniliquin Town Hall. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
Directed by Oscar-winning Australian animator Adam Elliot, the stop-motion feature is a bittersweet tale inspired by Elliot’s own life.
It follows Grace Pudel, a melancholic woman who hoards snails, romance novels, and guinea pigs, while navigating family struggles and friendships in 1970s Melbourne.
The film features the voices of Nick Cave, Eric Bana, Jackie Weaver, and Magda Szubanski, and has been praised for its heart-warming yet thought-provoking storytelling.
Rated M, the film is not recommended for young children, with parents advised to use discretion.
Season for giving
If you’re looking for an opportunity to give this festive season, there are many local ways to bring someone joy this Christmas.
Many local groups are offering gifts and non-perishable food items to be distributed before Christmas.
If you can spare a few things for those in need this year, add them to your shopping lists.
Some places to donate this year include The Deni LHAC Tree of Giving in the foyer of the Deniliquin Hospital and Edward River Library Book Giving Tree at the Edward River Library.
We are sure readers in a position to give will discover these and many more options locally to make someone’s Christmas a little brighter.
